Class Description

CYT Online: Voice 100
Core Voice is all about building confidence and setting a solid foundation of knowledge about the human voice. We will be covering the basics of vocalization (including vocal health and care), learning some new vocabulary and technical skills, and putting that knowledge in the context of singing the songs of Mary Poppins! Did you know that singing releases endorphins that are proven to reduce stress and anxiety? In this unprecedented, uncertain, and often stressful time, I hope that this class offers some much needed joy, and that the virtual space that we inhabit weekly will be a positive space for each student to explore the world of music with curiosity, camaraderie, and Christ.

Kayla Fisher

Kayla has been hooked on applause since age 5, when she performed in her kindergarten’s production of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. She jumped at the chance to join CYT Spokane when she turned 8, and she stayed involved for the next 13 years by taking classes, performing in shows, working backstage, and, eventually, teaching summer camps. Kayla attended Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in commercial music with a double emphasis in vocal performance and music business. During college, she worked as a freelance musician in the Nashville area and spent two summers working as the vocalist at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. After graduating, she spent four years writing, recording, and touring with a Nashville and Los Angeles-based pop/rap duo as a lead vocalist/rapper. During this time, she had the opportunity to perform at numerous festivals, music venues, and colleges, have songs placed in various television shows, write and record with some of the world’s top producers, and lead songwriting workshops at Boys and Girls Clubs, primary schools, and children’s hospitals across the United States. In pursuit of new adventures, Kayla moved to Seattle with her husband in 2017, where she taught private voice and piano, helped with CYT Seattle, started a career in the ice cream business with Salt & Straw, and welcomed her daughter to the world in September of 2019. A desire to be closer to family and begin the next chapter of her family’s story has brought Kayla back to Spokane, and she is excited to reconnect with her CYT roots and bring some of what she’s learned during her time away back to her theatrical home! That was a lot of words! Here's what you really need to know: Kayla is Nik Erb's older sister.
